On Friday the 5th November Age UK Waltham Forest held a social event for a small group of its Caribbean clients (16 maximum because of social distancing). It was mostly a social event, with food and music, but also with the opportunity for each person to share some of their life story.
Terry Day, the befriending Manager, invited Mervin Caesar-John Chairperson to give a short talk about the Twinning Association and also a brief history of the Windrush scandal and the compensation scheme from the Twinning Association's Windrush Reach Project. Mervin gave her presentation inviting everyone to share the message about the Windrush Reach project. The attendees shared their wonderful stories. Sharon Foster the TA's Vice Chair wore a Black Poppy Rose to commemorate her great Uncle, George Laviscount, who served in WW11.
There was a lot of fond reminiscences around the tables and the event ended with a quiz to name the Caribbean flags.
A big thank you to Terry Day and her team for such a wonderful event.

18th September - 1 - 4.30pm - Social Surgery at Vestry House Museum the day went well, we enjoyed a 'social hour' partaking of bun & cheese and refreshments - with dominoes games on offer.
The programme included the lively must-see performance poetry by Adisa the Verbaliser, then we heard about the history of the black community in Waltham Forest from local historian Peter Ashan. We also viewed the brilliant We Are Here Windrush Photography Exhibition at the Vestry House Museum.
Our Legal Adviser Pauline Campbell was on hand for 1-2-1 surgeries to help with Windrush Compensation Scheme queries. Subira Cameron-Goppy told us about the Windrush Justice Clinic and the Claudia Jones Organisation.
For everyone's safety we observed a 'hands-face-space' Covid-19 protocol. Find out more: http://wftwinningassociation.org/windrush-reach

The 22nd June was the Launch of the Windrush Reach Project
The joint Windrush Day event with the Vestry House Museum included viewing both an exhibition video and the actual exhibition:
We Are Here - Photographing the Windrush citizens of Waltham Forest. The exhibition is at the VHM until September and more information can be seen here.
The event to launch our Windrush Reach project took place on Windrush Day at Vestry House Museum. We were honoured to welcome our Patron the Mayor of Waltham Forest Cllr Elizabeth Baptiste at the launch of this very important project. Special thanks also to our launch partner Be That Change WF for their contribution towards the success of the event. It was great to see such a mix of people including the young people from Project ZeroWF.
